Technical Requirements for Online Classes

Many Harrison College courses include instructional resources and learning objects available only via the Internet, made available through the learning management system (Canvas). These digital resources support student mastery of course objectives in traditional on-ground, blended or fully online courses. A student may be required to complete and submit assignments based upon these digital resources. Completion of final exams through Canvas may be required in selected courses.

Canvas

Harrison College offers Canvas, where learners are able to experience a personal, responsive and attentive learning environment that includes:

  1. Full access to instruction and learning objects for their courses
  2. Access to phone, chat, and email support 24 hour per day, 7 days per week, 365 days per year
  3. Access to course grades, and their course and campus calendar
  4. A virtual campus community where they can receive announcements, and connect with fellow campus students and Harrison support personnel (My Campus course)

Web Browser Requirements

Canvas supports the last two versions of every browser release. It is highly recommend to update to the newest version of whatever browser you are using as well as the most up-to-date Flash plug-in.

  • Internet Explorer 10 and 11
  • Chrome 43 and 44 (New versions of Chrome are periodically released throughout the year. Canvas supports the last two versions released)
  • Safari 7 and 8
  • Firefox 38 and 39 (Extended Releases are not supported) (New versions of Firefox are periodically released throughout the year. Canvas supports the last two versions released)
  • Flash 17 and 18 (for recording or viewing audio/video and uploading files)

Canvas on Mobile Devices

The Canvas interface was optimized for desktop displays, so using small form factors such as phones may not be a pleasant experience in using Canvas. Canvas is not officially supported on mobile browsers. We recommend using Canvas mobile applications for an improved user experience.

Since Canvas uses small elements of Flash, not all Canvas features may be supported on mobile devices, especially on iOS.
