Testing Out

If you think you already have enough knowledge on a certain topic, you may be eligible to gain credit by testing out of classes, which may save you time and money. Here are some guidelines to be aware of:

  • You must score 80 percent or higher to earn credit for that course.
  • You may earn credit for up to 75 percent of the total credits of the program in which you are enrolled.
  • There is a $45 testing fee per exam. (This fee is waived for high school students.)
  • You must take the exam prior to the fourth day of the quarter.
  • An approved proctor must be present when you take your test.
  • You may take a test only once per course.
  • You may not test out of a course after unsatisfactorily completing or withdrawing from it.

Several courses qualify for credit by testing out, so please check with the dean at your campus for information regarding which courses qualify.

College Level Examination Program (CLEP)

We award CR E credit for selected courses based on CLEP examinations. You must provide an original CLEP transcript from the College Board in order to receive credit.

You may also earn credit in selected Harrison courses by presenting official DANTES Subject Standardized Tests (or DSST, formerly known as DANTES) test results. In order to receive credit, you must present an official DSST transcript sent to the college from Thonson Prometric.
